Information about the Village, the Parish Council and events in the Village Hall
FVH is a charity run by a committee of volunteer trustees for the benefit of the village
Hello fellow Villagers from the FVH Trustees
It was so strange for us to shut the doors of the hall back in March at the announcement of lockdown. So now lockdown has been eased we have been thinking of how we can start to open but it is going to be a very different way of doing things! So, we are starting back slowly and very carefully! We are grateful for the help from Freckenham resident, Debbie Durrant of Lime Tree Learning & Development for her voluntary assistance in getting Health & Safety Risk Assessments in place. Many of you will recognise the name as the lady who has been collecting prescriptions for us all, she is looking forward to putting names to faces!
FRECKENHAM FARMERS MARKET IS BACK ON SATURDAY 25TH JULY 10 – 12 NOON
OUTDOOR – In the Garden – Food and Fresh Flower stalls only
We must adhere to strict guidelines that are changing so please be patient with us as it is all new to us too!! We will be operating a one-way system round into the garden, entry from the far side of the hall by the shed nearer Fordham with exit on the allotment side. Hand sanitiser stations at the entrance and again at the exit, social distancing will be expected from you and please try not to touch things on the stalls, ask the stallholders and do try and bring your own bags. The hall is going to be kept closed so no café facilities or toilets, so just remember to go to the toilet before you come and wash your hands just like our parents told us! Though we are delighted to advise that The Golden Boar toilets are available if needed! In fact, if it is hot perhaps bring a cool bag for your shopping, so you can drop into The Golden Boar for a drink or pre-book lunch 01638 723000! For some of the stallholders it will be their first selling opportunity so they would really appreciate if you can pre-order to collect on the day as none of us are sure how many people will come and buy. We are able to offer home delivery for those unable to attend in person you’d book & pay for your goods with the stallholder and then ask for it to be delivered by phoning/texting the VH mobile on 07542 198 933.

Currently, there are still no classes actually in the hall, but many tutors are doing classes via ZOOM (before lockdown the only Zoom we knew was an ice lolly) and other platforms on the internet. Some are still not permitted by the Government Guidelines. Debbie has again been helping us with the H&S Risk Assessments for this, but each individual tutor will have to do their own as every class/club has different needs. Some of the issues are the age of the participants, the size of the class to keep within social distancing guidelines and then whether it is financially viable to operate a class with a smaller number. Chrissie Bond has advised she will not be looking to start her yoga classes at the hall until at least October, she has another grandchild expected! Julia Cragie is moving back to Yorkshire (full details in the Parish Pump) so we will have some new instructors joining the fold! Sharon Hayns for FitSteps so she is looking to try FitSteps outside in the car park to start! Her contact details are Facebook: @FitSteps with Sharon; Mobile: 07930 220 623; Email: email@example.com. Not confirmed yet but the Friday Pilates by Julie 07535 424 701 firstname.lastname@example.org is doing zoom classes but is also looking to try and start her class. Though timings may be changing to fit in with her other venue’s times.
Whatever happens it will definitely mean we will have to be in discussion with the class tutors to work out how they will manage their classes in the future with social distancing, how to pay, allowing time for booking in and exiting the building before the next class starts, without a gathering and crossover in the foyer!
As many classes follow on from each other we have got to operate a “one way in and another way-out system” to avoid bottle necks. So that will probably mean you come in via a “side emergency door” with the slope and exit via the main doors! Giving social distance space in toilets we will just have the disabled toilet available and we have decided not to open the kitchen at all for now!! So, you will need to bring your own water container to classes, although many of you already do.
FRIDAY FILM NIGHT AT FRECKENHAM
This is currently mothballed as we think about how we can re-start these popular evenings safely. With social distancing it will almost certainly mean you have to pre-book and of course severely reduce the numbers attending. So, all we can say for now is watch this space!
EVENTS IN GENERAL
Thinking more likely to be cabaret style seating with the space pre-booked i.e. table for 4, 6 for family/bubble groups or ask if you can socially distance with another group, you know we are a friendly lot in Freckenham. Creative Arts East are keen to know if anyone would attend when allowed to do live events if a theatre/Music/Dance/Spoken Word event in the future? We wonder particularly to start with if this would work for BINGO? What do you think, would you attend, could you help and be a volunteer at the event? Email email@example.com, or call the Village Hall phone 07542 198933 if you are interested!
The Golden Boar Inn IS OPEN with all their Covid-19 aware procedures in place and two great outdoor garden areas as well as indoors. They have a new chef and menu so do look at their Facebook page or give them a ring 01638 723000!
St Andrew’s Church is holding weekly sermons via zoom or telephone at 11am and again they are looking to re-open the Church too. Contact Rev Sandie Barton 01638 720770 to join in!
The Coffee Caravan is getting back on the road! To cover as many locations as possible they are changing our time and day for August only to Monday 3rd August 11 – 1pm in East View Car Park.
It will mean bringing your own chair and mug, but they will provide the tea or coffee with an extra apology of sorry no cake this time! But the information, familiar faces and friendly chat will be there as always! We will also be practicing social distancing and if wet they will relocate to The Golden Boar.
